Advanced Biofilm Cleaning
One of the best advances in dental hygiene is in the use of Airflow to clean teeth. A modern, minimally invasive teeth-cleaning using air, water, and glycine particles to remove plaque, stains, and biofilm like a pressure-wash for your teeth.
Benefits compared to traditional cleaning?
✓ Enhanced comfort and less sensitivity
✓ Gently but effectively removes plaque, biofilm, and stains
✓ More effective stain removal than standard prophy paste
✓ Ideal for previous restorations, implants, crowns, etc
✓ Better access to tight spaces
✓ Avoids scraping and scratching up teeth/gums
DR. SYRUS’S PERSPECTIVE
Patients love the Airflow and find it significantly more comfortable than traditional scaling. Over scraping teeth can actually remove tooth structure as well as create irregularities on teeth surface ironically leading to quicker plaque and biofilm accumulation.
Calculus deposits still need to be removed with an Ultrasonic scaler but for the majority of patients in regular care 75-100% of the cleaning is handled by the Airflow.

Your cleaning appointment at Alchemy Dental
I start by assessing your gums, biofilm, surface stains, and hard deposits. I ask about sensitivity and use warm water to make cleaning more comfortable. Air polishing helps remove biofilm and surface stains; I use additional instruments when hard deposits need removal. Before you leave, I explain home care and the follow-up interval suited to your oral health.
Cost and treatment planning
$220 for out of pocket | PPO insurance copay is usually $0-$30
Frequently asked questions
How does it differ from a traditional cleaning?
The approach emphasizes biofilm assessment and removal, with instruments selected for your deposits and comfort. It is not one identical procedure for every mouth.
Will it hurt if my teeth are sensitive?
Theres two different versions we have one is with regular temperature one is with warm water. Let us know ahead of time if you have sensitivities to cold. Sensitive teeth respond very well to warm water Airflow.
Does it replace deep cleaning?
No. If periodontitis requires scaling and root planning, a preventive cleaning alone is not adequate treatment to treat the deep pockets. However, the Airflow is used in adjunct with it and there are specialized tips to clean the deeper roots once the calculus is removed.
How often should I return?
I recommend an interval based on your gum health, risk factors, and ability to maintain the result at home. 3-6 months is typical.
