Ozone Therapy (O₃)

The same Ozone as the Ozone Layer that protects our earth provides numerous benefits in the dental setting replacing more harmful chemicals traditionally used.

When might ozone be considered as an adjunct?

  • ✓ Stopping early cavity progression

  • ✓ Reducing Biofilm build up on teeth

  • ✓ killing anaerobic bacteria in periodontal pockets

  • ✓ After cavity preparation as a disinfectant

  • ✓ accelerating healing of cold sores (herpes) and canker sores

  • ✓ Ozone injection for minor infections/pain management

  • ✓ After extraction in the socket of infected teeth

  • ✓ Halitosis reduction (bad breath)

DR. SYRUS’S PERSPECTIVE

I’m a big fan of Ozone, there is so much utility to it in the dental setting. It replaces the traditional antibacterial product used in dentistry Chlorhexidine which has been shown to be indiscriminately cytotoxic damaging bone cells, muscle cells, gum tissue, and inhibiting healing even at low concentrations.

Frequently asked questions

How is ozone used at Alchemy Dental?

I incorporate ozone into selected cleaning, periodontal, restorative, extraction, and implant care when appropriate.

Can it replace a filling or periodontal treatment?

Usually it is an adjunct and does not replace necessary removal of decay, mechanical cleaning, restoration, or other indicated care unless the cavity is very early in its formation.

Is ozone free of risks?

No. In higher percentages it can be a lung irritant, but the procedure doesn’t take long and taking shallow breathes through your nose for the duration highly minimizes this risk.

Is Ozone Therapy Painful?

For the large majority of its utilization no, for the injection some people say the gas can feel “spicy” and dissipates shortly after.
