Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF)
What is PRF?
Platelet-rich fibrin is a concentrate prepared from a small sample of your own blood. Spinning the sample in a centrifuge separates its components and creates a soft fibrin clot rich in platelets. Fibrin is the protein mesh that helps form a natural blood clot; platelets release growth factors involved in tissue repair.
I can shape this material into a plug or a thin membrane and place it at the surgical site. It acts as a temporary scaffold for healing cells while delivering your own blood-derived healing signals locally. We use Horizontal centrifuged PRF here which provides up to 3.5x higher concentration of platelets and white blood cells compared to standard PRF centrifuge.
How I use PRF for extractions and implants
After a tooth extraction: I may place PRF in the socket or over the treatment area to support early wound healing. Depending on the socket and future tooth-replacement plan, I may use it alone or alongside bone graft material.
During implant treatment: I may use PRF around the surgical site or with graft material to support soft-tissue healing. It complements careful surgery and site preparation; the need for grafting and the timing of implant placement depend on your existing bone and clinical findings.
PRF Benefits
✓ Supports early gum and soft-tissue healing
✓ Provides a natural fibrin scaffold for tissue repair
✓ Delivers your own platelets and healing growth factors
✓ May improve comfort during recovery after extraction
✓ Supports the healing environment at extraction and implant sites
✓ Considered gold standard when paired with bone graft
My approach to your care
DR. SYRUS’S PERSPECTIVE
What studies show as long as what I see with patients is significant quicker healing and reduction of post-op sensitivity. When I see someone in a 1 week post-op for an extraction who had PRF placed it tends to look like its had 3 weeks of healing already. For healing as well as maintaining bone volume the gold standard is combining PRF with bone graft.

What to expect
I review your health history, medications, and planned procedure first. A small blood sample is drawn from your arm and processed in a centrifuge during your appointment. I prepare the PRF and place it at the extraction or implant site as part of your surgical care. You’ll receive instructions for cleaning, eating, and protecting the area while it heals.
Cost and treatment planning
$640 — includes cost of professional phlebotomist for blood draw.
Frequently asked questions
Is PRF the same as a bone graft?
No. PRF is a blood-derived fibrin scaffold; bone graft material serves a different role in rebuilding or maintaining bone volume. The gold standard is using PRF along with bonegraft for optimizing healing as well as bone growth.
Is a blood draw required?
Yes. PRF is prepared from your own blood. We hire a professional phlebotomist to come draw the blood.
Will PRF make healing faster or prevent dry socket?
Many studies show PRF helps significantly with healing and a Hoaglin and Lines’ 2013 study showed there is a 9.5x less chance of getting dry socket with PRF as to without it.
What’s the difference between PRP and PRF
PRF uses no added anticoagulants and the fibrin network it creates releases growth factors more gradually than PRP. They are similar but PRF is better suited for dental needs.
