Composite Bonding Veneers
Small changes can make a meaningful difference in your smile. At Alchemy Dental in West Los Angeles, I use your goals, tooth shape, and bite to help plan an individualized approach to composite bonding.
When should you consider composite bonding?
✓ Chips along tooth edges
✓ Spaces you would like to close
✓ Uneven tooth shapes or lengths
✓ Surface imperfections
✓ A change to the balance of your smile
✓ Exploring an alternative to porcelain
I’ll examine your teeth and gums and discuss whether bonding, porcelain, whitening, or another approach fits your needs.
DR. SYRUS’S PERSPECTIVE
In my opinion, composite bonding is best suited for targeted changes involving one or two teeth—such as adjusting length/ thickness, or improving a color mismatch.
For a full smile makeover, I generally prefer porcelain veneers. Composite bonding tends to require more maintenance and can chip, wear, or stain over time, particularly with frequent exposure to coffee, tea, wine, and strongly colored foods. A lot of patients who come to me for Porcelain Veneers are people who had Composite Bonding Veneers done initially elsewhere.
One misconception I like to address is that bonding simply “adds” to your teeth and can be removed without affecting them. Although treatment may involve little or no tooth reduction, the tooth surface is conditioned to create a bond. Removing the composite later requires careful work, and I would not promise that the tooth will return to its exact original condition.

Frequently asked questions
What is a composite veneer?
It is a covering made with tooth-colored resin bonded to the front of a tooth. Bonding can also be limited to a smaller area rather than covering the full front surface.
How is it different from porcelain?
Composite and porcelain are different materials with different treatment steps and maintenance needs. I’ll compare them for the changes you want to make.
Will I need tooth preparation?
That depends on tooth position, existing restorations, and the planned change. I’ll explain any proposed preparation before treatment.
Can bonding change my tooth color?
Bonding can alter the appearance of the treated surface. I’ll discuss shade selection and whether whitening natural teeth first would help the overall plan.
How do I care for bonding?
Brush and clean between your teeth every day, keep regular dental visits, and avoid using your teeth to open packages or bite hard objects.
Can bonding need repair?
Bonding can chip, stain, or wear over time. I’ll evaluate any changes and discuss whether polishing, repair, or replacement is appropriate.
